If you are asked what you remember about your time in school, there might be a lot of things that come to your mind. Like open assemblies, examinations and inter-school competitions, celebration of annual day, sports day and days of local and national importance are events that you will never forget.
As students, we await some celebration or the other for many reasons. The reasons include being allowed to wear casual clothes; competitions that you look forward to taking part in; cultural programs like traditional dances, skits, musical performances; the number of periods that would be cut because of the celebration and so on.
Among all these, there are a few celebrations that stay in our minds consciously or unconsciously, no matter how old you grow. Some of them include the annual day, the sports day, the Independence day, the Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Diwali, Christmas, etc. Independence day, Republic day and Gandhi Jayanti are the national festivals which are commonly celebrated in every school in India. On all these three occasions, students and teachers put together cultural programs that showcase the importance and significance of the day. They also portray the unassuming and selfless nature of the freedom fighters and all of them who made it possible for us to live in a country where you can be free. On October 2nd, Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated to commemorate the life and achievements of Mahatma Gandhi, one of the pioneers of the freedom movement. Whatever be the occasion, there are some aspects that remain the same. It is made sure that a welcome speech, a presidential address and a vote of thanks speech are included in every event as it is considered to be an essential and fundamental part of any event. Teachers usually select the best of students who are confident enough to be on stage in front of a huge gathering and those who have a good hand over the English language. They make sure that the students who are entrusted with the task practise and deliver the speech clearly and perfectly.
Such occasions are chances for students to showcase their cultural and artistic talents. One of the reasons students and parents get excited over being a part of these occasions is because these are a few occasions where the children get to do something other than attending classes and taking examinations. It is an opportunity to do something that they obviously love and these occasions can become one of the moments that kindle the fire of passion that would determine their future as well. So, seize your moment. Use every opportunity that comes your way. It can design your destiny and who knows, you might turn out to become the most influential public speaker, the most talented singer/dancer or even the most aspiring and people-centered politician there ever was or there ever will be.
